Pedagogical methods

The thematic School will make use of diverse methods:

- introductory presentations in the form of conferences (plenary morning sessions in French or English);

- methodological workshops on analysing video extracts supplied by the instructors or the participating researchers’ own data;

- technical workshops on how to use sound and video recording equipment or software tools (corpus management or analysis software, the  ViSA video data resource sharing database...);

The timetable is structured in such a way as to enable easy continuation of the discussion in an informal context (3 hours in the morning, 4 hours in the afternoon).

The instructors all have nationally or internationally recognised expertise in the domain of creation and analysis of video recording corpora. Instruction will primarily be in French, or in English if the instructor’s French is not adequate.

Materials:

- texts in pdf format will be distributed to participants before the School: these will be texts proposed by the various instructors and the pedagogical team (the ViSA site will be used: visa.ens-lyon.fr/);

- a summary of the conferences will be sent out with the programme before the School;

- materials prepared by the organisers and instructors (compression, transcription, annotation and classification software, etc.).
